Immensity in freedom of expression

Immensity in freedom of expression

Immensity in freedom of expression

The universe, full of various facets, infinite by definition and, thanks to this, free from any constraint of possibility. It turns to us in all its magnificence and, thus, we can interpret it at our discretion. In this discretion we are free to find our meanings and, in these, to express ourselves in what we feel and think.

Born in Palermo in 1992, he graduates at the Eustachio Catalano art school in his hometown. On the occasion of the graduation he presents a study on the golden section, mathematical ratio that supports science and art. He later decides to cultivate his artistic interests through personal and free research on anatomical knowledge and the great masters of the past, not following the canonical pursue of scholastic education.

It then goes through a period of artistic research at the chromatic and compositional-structural level, with the aim of showing both the unconscious and the design aspect, of expressing concepts within the works. Art, seen as a conjunction between beauty and ideas, pushes it to give meaning to the work by immersing itself in it, creating it in its own image.

In 2015, following further studies about restoration, he takes part in the renovation of an opera of the XVIII century by Father Fedele da San Biagio located in the Capuchin monastery in Palermo.

The landscape, in the production of Lorenzo Oliva, tends to be the meeting point between our inner and outer world with a sense of loss and melancholy. There is a coincidence with the belonging environment which is also a source of bewilderment and fear for a universe often hostile to our species, which has the awareness and is able to realize the precariousness of the human being: limited, finite and imperfect. Even the myth lets emerge a nostalgic feeling of nature and increasingly desolate places due to our pervasive, ambiguous and multi-faceted species. Hence, the search for places, even extreme and uninhabited scenarios or other galaxies where to experience conditions of dream and silence. The continuous research aims at our "I" which does not coincide with a rational and compact entity but is rather a synergy of confluent instances. Because we depend on our history, change is very challenging, yet possible! From fragility and incompleteness, generative strength and invention of an unpublished represented with a brush can arise. The dichotomy of man, suspended between a past world of which he is nostalgic and reaching out towards a world in which he dreams of being able to belong, can expand the area of his own consciousness of the real world. The richness of the representation of one's emotional geography and one's inner landscapes, for this reason devoid of human figures and silent, is the result of a theater of differences that only the multiplicity of living spaces can feed.

Lorenzo Oliva transcends reality through his paintings, he makes us part of his introspective journey, of his reflections that over time have led him to have self-awareness and his artistic doing. Surreal and metaphysical mental landscapes that become metaphors and symbols of what is hidden in his unconscious and of the eternal struggle between good and evil that reflects the human soul in general and that of the artist in particular.

Paul Levi

The artist was born in the city of Palermo on 08/13/1992; he attended the Eustachio Catalano art school and obtained his high school diploma at the end of the course.
Thus, already as a student, he learns the set of techniques and rules to be applied to the exercise of his profession, as well as the language to represent and tell what strikes his creative imagination.
He uses in his paintings color stamps suitable to express the "tone" of what constitutes the subject; sometimes it creates a contrast between flat drafts and others given to fat and full-bodied brushstrokes. By combining the colors with or without chiaroscuro passages, he tunes them with such skill as to release all the harmony.
He balances the body masses and extracts from the movement of the lines drawn the musical sense or the melody that originates from it.
He generates rhythm in his paintings, using anaphora, i.e. repeating the color stamps several times.
Furthermore, he gives a content to his pictorial form, a content which is its conceptual aspect, according to which it reveals the essence of life, whose value is timeless.
His knowledge therefore constitutes the cultural substratum of his pictorial works, while the style, that is the form with which he concretizes his artistic expression, varies with the change of the object that inspires him or of the psychological moment that he experiences and denotes his spirit free from external influences, a spirit that wants to be himself beyond the cultural and artistic currents, which appear concentrated in the frantic search for an unusual and provocative quid that arouses amazement or bewilderment.
